A fruitier merchant, fuel merchants, butcher, post office, and estate agent were one of the first businesses along this road.

A 35 Douglas Street houses a famous house built in 1958 by Joseph Simpson, and this house gives aesthetic significance to the Banyule city. Architect Robin Boyd designed the house, and the house was a modern achievement during the 1950s and 1960s.
